The Development of Processes and Techniques That Have Redefined the Patient and Surgeon Experience in Breast Augmentation

In 1993, Dr. Tebbetts recognized that the patient experience in breast augmentation had remained largely unchanged for over two decades, with patients requiring 10 days or more to return to normal activities following breast augmentation, and with an average of 18-20% of patients needing a reoperaiton within just 3 years following their augmentation according to United States FDA Premarket Approval Study data.  When analyzing the reasons for lack of progress in the patient experience in breast augmentation, Dr. Tebbetts realized that almost every area connected with breast augmentation needed major rethinking and a major overhaul of the processes that determine patient results and recovery.  Areas that needed improvement included patient education and informed consent, surgical planning and implant selection, surgical and anesthesia techniques, and patient management after surgery.

One of the first and most important steps on the staircase is understanding the importance of reconciling desires with reality—reconciling your wishes with your tissues. what you want with what your body will allow you to have. It’s much easier to find a surgeon who will tell you he can produce what you want than to find a surgeon who knows and will tell you how what you want is likely to affect you now and in the future. The choices you make now may decisively influence your risks of having problems and reoperations in the future.

I had the breast augmentation nine days ago, exactly on January 22 2007. It was sub muscular and the incision was behind the breast, the doctor set a very cohesive gel texturized implant size 325 cc of Eurosilicone. I have had problems, I had high temperature (39° C) since six days ago, the Doctor has reviewed to me and he said ther isn t infection and the breast seem to be ok,in the same shape and color, he told me it was the blood that keep inside and my body absorbes, then I went to the lab for a blood test that the doctor request. Please can you give an opinion what I should do? Iam scared and I want to know if this is a bad reaction of my body to implants and I may not a goos candidate and i just want to be helpfull.

Hola... Estoy muy angustiada me opere hace unos días 5 para ser exacta, anteriormente era talla 32 B, pero no la llenaba me quedaba a medias, fui con mi cirujano y le indique que quería aumentarlo, me valoro y me recomendó 280 o 310 es la primera vez que me hago algo, así que yo estaba indecisa le indique que 280 pero me dijo que recordara que por la presión que iba a tener el implante me recomendaba 310 y le pedí me asesorara ya que es el experto y que quería aumentarlo pero quería algo natural y nada excesivo y me puso 310... Pero cuando me vi al espejo casi me desmayo ya que se ven enormes, como 2 globotes, mi cirujano me dijo que tengo que esperar a que desinflamen, podrían asesorarme y darme un estimado de la talla en la que quedare, ya que tengo la impresión que son demasiado grandes para mi complexión mido 1.62, peso 49 Kg., cintura 61 y cadera 88... Así mismo en caso de que queden muy grandes puedo reclamar al cirujano para que me cambie los implantes?
